IMPROVEMENT WITH EACH GENERATION
Erica and CK05 Mildred
for their summer of
championships in 2023
Anderson Boer Goats is located in Roosevelt, Utah (North Eastern Utah). Family Owned and operated, run by, myself, Julia Anderson and some of my nieces. I have been around goats my whole life, they were 'just goats' then. When you put so much time and effort into an idea, you start to admire your progress. I've caught myself wasting an entire afternoon sitting on a milk crate just watching them.
Emily and Erica are both headed off to college already! They both were in 4H or FFA for over 10 years, and an essential part of running the farm. Both girls have had hands on learning with the AI process. While they are away to college, we are still improving their herds and hitting ABGA shows when their schedule allows. It is going to be tougher for Erica as she has enlisted and will soon be on her way to basic training.
Loretta, Mark and Ruby are just starting to get their hands in the farm as well. They are helping with weighing babies and doing the math to calculate daily weight gain. They have been making deals and working hard to get their own goats and started in 4H. Loretta is dead set on dapples, so we will see where she takes those goals.
We strive for QUALITY. We have cut back on our does, if they don't produce well, we won't keep them. We don't waste our time on does that can't produce quality kids. We feel like we've brought in some excellent bucks, and some very nice does from some good ranches around the country. Some of our commercial does we have kept are producing some kids that out grow the full bloods. We are keeping track of Daily Weight Gains, kids per doe, birth weights, weaning weights, pounds of kid weaned per doe, how many kids the doe can feed. We don't allow our slacker mothers to stay! We are holding our bucks at a high standard as well. We want high weaning weights, big rumps, long backs and wide through the shoulders and hips. We are not bias towards color.
A GOOD GOAT IS NEVER A BAD COLOR.
We have started doing our own AI's with some pretty good success. We've been able to get our bucks collected (it has been a relief knowing we have semen in the tank, especially after we lost Tsuyoi this last summer.) If you'd like to purchase some semen we have a tank on the farm and store the bulk of it at Hoffman AI in Logan, UT. We've been able to bring in some cool genetics this way and have purchased some great new does this last year. We are excited to be able offer this kind of quality. 2024 is scheduled to be our first flush and we cannot wait to see how this plays out. We have made it back to the ABGA show ring with a very successful 2023 season. And our wether program has started to make a splash as well. Watch for us as we run around the Rocky Mountain area, either showing or collecting goats!
Everything can always be made better. Our motto: Improvement with each generation. We want to take steps, even leaps and bounds forward. We refuse to take a step backwards. Our goal is to offer good quality stock, to any state, not just Utah. We have sent our goats to WA, OR, CA, ID, NV, CO, WY, AZ, WV, MT, NE and of course a lot here in Utah. We like to have kids to weight on their own, without extra grain, by the time they are weaned. Does have to produce well, be good mothers, kid unassisted, have enough milk, be wide through the shoulders and hips (especially through the hips), good teats and teeth, and be able to pass those traits on. Bucks have to be gentle, they need to be productive, they have to have a good frame with lots of muscle, good feet and legs are essential, and they have to be able to pass those good traits to their kids.
