IMPROVEMENT WITH EACH GENERATION

Emily Crapo with General Lee (XP x Freight Train)
Anderson Boer Goats is located in Roosevelt, Utah (North Eastern Utah). Family Owned and operated, run by, myself, Julia Anderson and some of my nieces. I have been around goats my whole life, they were 'just goats' then. When you put so much time and effort into an idea, you start to admire your progress. I've caught myself wasting an entire afternoon sitting on a milk crate just watching them.
Emily and Erica Crapo have been in 4-H for 8 years now, Loretta is fixing to get her hands in the farm as well. They are taking care of their own shots, hoof trimming, and even vaccinations on their does and still help out with the whole herd. Like most farm kids, they get to drive while we pick up hay. Ethan won't let me get hay without him. Erica will not let us do vaccinations without her, and both girls help with weighing babies and doing the math to calculate daily weight gain. Erica is going to make a heck of a vet tech if she keeps her attitude and motivation. They are super excited to get going on their new project does, and have picked out their own bucks to use and are even paying for their own AIs to be done (they are going to be responsible adults!) Wish them the best of luck with the adventure ahead!
We strive for QUALITY. We have cut back on our does, if they don't produce well, we won't keep them. We don't waste our time on does that can't produce quality kids. Right off the bat we shave them all down to 3mm after weaning so we can really see what we have. We feel like we've brought in some excellent bucks, and some very nice does from some good ranches around the country. Some of our commercial does we have kept are producing some kids that out grow the full bloods. We are keeping track of Daily Weight Gains, kids per doe, birth weights, weaning weights, pounds of kid weaned per doe, how many kids the doe can feed. We don't allow our slacker mothers to stay! We are holding our bucks at a high standard as well. We want high weaning weights, big rumps, long backs and wide through the shoulders and hips. We are not bias towards color. A GOOD GOAT IS NEVER A BAD COLOR.
We have started doing our own AI's with some pretty good success. We've been able to get our bucks collected (it has been a relief knowing we have semen in the tank, especially after we lost Tsuyoi this summer.) If you'd like to purchase some semen we have a tank on the farm and store the bulk of it at Hoffman AI in Logan, UT. We've been able to bring in some cool genetics this way and have purchased some great new does this year. We are excited to be able offer this kind of quality. We have made it back to the ABGA show ring and we have been having some success there as well. Watch for us as we run around the Rocky Mountain area, either showing or collecting goats!
Everything can always be made better. Our motto: Improvement with each generation. We want to take steps, even leaps and bounds forward. We refuse to take a step backwards. Our goal is to offer good quality stock, to any state, not just Utah. We have sent our goats to WA, OR, ID, CO, NV, WY, AR, WV, MT, NE and of course a lot here in Utah. We like to have kids to weight on their own, without extra grain, by the time they are weaned. Does have to produce well, be good mothers, kid unassisted, have enough milk, be wide through the shoulders and hips (especially through the hips), good teats and teeth, and be able to pass those traits on. Bucks have to be gentle, they need to be productive, they have to have a good frame with lots of muscle, good feet and legs are essential, and they have to be able to pass those good traits to their kids.
